Thank You for Your Help and Support!
Cyclone Idai hit Beira, Mozambique, on March 15, with winds of up to 170 kilometers per hour, devastating large sections of the city. Many lives were lost, many houses were destroyed and several church buildings were severely damaged. Other parts of the country experienced severe rains that destroyed their crops and livelihoods. Thousands struggled with no electricity, no clean water, no food or cooking fuel and no medicine. Luiz Pereira Santos, Tim Brumfield and Gary Simpson were sent to Africa with relief funding, which was provided by generous donors. Below is an update of that on-going effort.
Relief help was provided to 1350 families and the work continues.
The relief team provided housing, medicine, beds, blankets, sheets, mattresses, clothing, soap, food and water, relief funds as needed.
Help was provided to local congregations in Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
The relief team provided re-building materials, chairs, food and water filter kits, solar players, teaching materials, preacher funding, solar cell-phone charging stations.
Food, water and fuel was delivered to Cyclone victims in several cities.
The relief team bought and distributed over 16 tons of food (beans, rice, cornmeal, eggs, cooking oil), bought and distributed 3,155 liters of bottled water, bought and distributed 3,500 pounds of charcoal for cooking fuel and built & distributed 144 clean water filtration units.
Follow up and Evangelism Opportunities are continuing; 27 baptized so far.
The relief team taught “Let the Bible Speak,” WBS and Leadership Training Seminars in congregations and distributed 80 Solar Players to church leaders and seekers.
We are grateful for the humanitarian relief donations that have been given so far to provide for your brothers and sisters in Christ in Mozambique. Because of this blessing, the church is able to be a light during this dark time. The donated items were placed into the hands of the Christians with the challenge for them to help meet the needs of the hurting world around them. All of this reminds us of Acts 11:29-30 “The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.”
