The Hartford Avenue Church of Christ in Ponca City, OK, is seeking an enthusiastic, full-time pulpit minister to help the elders teach and train our members and to reach the lost in our community. The congregation is about 70 in number with average attendance around 50. We are a mission minded church supporting works in Jamaica and Cuba. We are looking for a man who will help us with the pulpit role and some basic youth activities as well.
The Hartford congregation was founded in 1956 and has been known for its mission works all over the world. The congregation was once over 300 strong, but changes in the oil industry in Oklahoma have impacted the dynamics of the congregation and the area. Ponca City, a town of around 25,000, is in northern Oklahoma, about 20 miles from the Kansas border. We are about 1.5 hours from Wichita, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The area is known for its recreation, with several lakes in the area including Lake Ponca and Kaw Reservoir. The city has active civic programs, schools and sports opportunities, including a new Recreation Center.
Hartford is a mature congregation, but we have a desire to attract younger members as well. We are looking for a younger family man and his wife, if possible, with children who has the ability to work with kids. We have been taking a number of children to Lads to Leaders and want to keep this program alive. Besides preaching, we desire a man to help us reach into the community. We have a We Care building that gives away hundreds of articles of clothing every month. We enjoy monthly fellowship meals in our Fellowship Building and offer special programs to attract the community, including legal seminars, safety programs and blood drives.
The candidate needs to be a graduate of one of our Christian Colleges or schools of preaching. 3-5 years’ experience is desired. A detailed resume of school and work experience with references and sample of preaching will be requested. Recent Preacher Training School graduates will be considered. We are a traditional congregation with acapella singing and a mission mindset.
