Solar Event Report from Kenya
First Deliveries!
Phase II of using hand held solar powered audio players (solar players) has been launched and is already being implemented. Even as the nationwide funding effort continues, steps of faith were taken as deliveries, distribution and training have already begun.
FIRST DELIVERY – MARCH 1-3 - MERU, KENYA
Geoffrey Mwaura Njoroge finished his studies at Sunset International Bible Institute and returned to his home country of Kenya. He went back to Kenya with a dream and a plan of planting a church in the city where he was born and raised.
With the help of Tim Brumfield and Speedy Hart, instructors from Sunset, Geoffrey began planting this future congregation. As Bible studies continued during the day, services were held each evening, allowing those who worked to attend also. Men and women listened intently as they let the Word of God speak to their hearts. Solar players were given out and received with great pleasure and joy.
The Lord’s church will continue to meet every Sunday in Machegene. The solar players will be used to mature the saints and grow the body of Christ. Two were clothed with Christ, and prayerfully others will soon come to obey the true gospel.
Additionally, the three men made a delivery, distribution and training at the Meru School of Theology. Preachers from around the county of Meru gathered and 70 solar players were given out and will be used in the Meru area of Kenya to train more preachers and leaders and evangelize among the villages in the county.
SECOND DELIVERY – MARCH 28
SECOND DELIVERY - NAIROBI, KENYA, AREA WIDE MEETING - MARCH 28
Later in the month in the capitol city of Nairobi, a Sunset team consisting of Tim Burow and Tim Brumfield assisted by Claude Thompson from Saturn Road Church of Christ, delivered 150 solar players to leaders at a combined seminar sponsored by the Institute of Practical Christian Ministry, Nairobi Church of Christ Eastleigh in Kenya, Sunset International Bible Institute and Saturn Road Church of Christ in Garland, Texas.
During the seminar the solar players were distributed to ministry leaders, evangelists and teachers who were taught how to use the solar player for evangelism, church planting and preacher training and how to maintain it properly. Each solar player distributed at that time included a red, hand-sewn protective pouch for the solar player provided by the ladies of Saturn Road Church of Christ as you can see in the picture below.
One of the missionaries there immediately recognized, "This is a great evangelistic tool." Peris who received a solar player for a Singles Ministry said, "This is a precious gift."
We look forward to the wonderful stories of God's work through this coming together of great ministries in Kenya.
