Description of Position
Northside Church of Christ in Bloomington, Illinois, is seeking a full-time senior minister. Under the oversight of the congregation’s elders, responsibilities include preaching and teaching, encouraging and modeling evangelism, prayer and community service, mentoring, helping members cultivate spiritual gifts, assisting members in crisis situations, officiating weddings and funerals, helping with assimilation of new members, and directing ministerial and administrative staff. The Congregation and Community
We are a welcoming and non-traditional congregation of approximately 120 people from all walks of life. Our mission is to love God, love others, and serve the world. We follow the principle, “in essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, grace.” For us, essentials include a belief in Jesus Christ and the salvation we have through his blood; the acceptance of God’s grace through faith, repentance and baptism; the Bible as the inspired word of God; and the promise of eternal life with God.
The church is located in the central Illinois twin cities of Bloomington-Normal. The area is a diverse and growing community of approximately 130,000 people. It features a thriving economy, highly-regarded schools, two major universities, and several large corporations. Many opportunities exist to enjoy the arts, sports, and nature. The area includes plenty of activities for children and families, including a robust parks system.
Qualifications
We are seeking a minister of proven character, with a vital, spirit-filled walk with Jesus Christ. The individual should be well-grounded in the Restoration movement, with a record of soul-winning (evangelism); solid, Bible-based preaching; and strong written and verbal communication skills. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a Bible-related field (or equivalent experience) is preferred.
